Buckingham Palace celebrates the 70th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s accession to the throne. Queen Elizabeth did not attend the 2nd day of the event due to health concerns. Queen Elizabeth is 96. A palace spokeswoman said she did not attend the ceremony because she was too old to travel outside.

Born into a royal family in London in 1926, Elizabeth II ascended the throne on June 2, 1953 at the age of 27. Elizabeth II, much loved by the royal family and the people of Britain, is 96 years old.

At a ceremony held at the palace, Queen Elizabeth II inaugurated the ceremony by lighting the lamp. The event was attended by members of the royal family, including Prince Williams, his wife Kate, Prince Harry and his wife Megan Markle.
