Korea wins overall title with 4 gold medals

Just 10 years ago, I lived with my grandmother who had a bad back and a house that burned briquettes. My parents had passed away in an accident. My older sister, who started playing soft tennis, was curious about the racket she carried, so I joined the tennis club in the first grade of elementary school. If I had a wish, it would be to join a professional team and live comfortably with my grandmother. My grandmother has already passed away and my older sister has long since put down her racket, but Lee Min-seon (26, NH Nonghyup Bank) believed in the saying, “Long-term waiting is good,” and persevered on the court. And finally, she became the “Queen of Tennis.”

The Korean women’s national team defeated Japan 2-0 in the team final of the World Tennis Championships held at Anseong Stadium on the 9th. Lee Min-seon, who won her first gold medal in an international competition in the singles at this tournament, also won the doubles with her teammate Lee Jeong-un (23) and finished the tournament with a triple crown by taking the team gold medal. It has been nine years since Kim Ae-kyung (36, then NH Nonghyup Bank) won the World Tennis Championships in New Delhi in 2015.

Korea won the overall championship of this tournament by taking 4 out of 7 gold medals, including the mixed doubles gold medal by Kim Beom-jun (35, Mungyeong City Hall) and Moon Hye-kyung (27, NH Nonghyup Bank). It has been 9 years since Korea won the overall championship at the World Tennis Championships in New Delhi in 2015. Japan came in 2nd with gold medals in the men’s singles and team events, and Taiwan came in 3rd with gold medals in the men’s doubles. About 400 players and officials from 31 countries around the world participated in this tournament, which began on the 3rd.
