The Swedes celebrated the opening of Parliament in 2024 with a large concert evening in Stockholm. High-ranking members of the royal family were in attendance, but according to media reports, Queen Silvia was surprisingly absent. King Carl XVI Gustaf came to the event alone.
Apparently, his wife had to cancel the event from her calendar at short notice. “Her Majesty the Queen has cancelled due to a cold,” said the court’s deputy head of information, Johan Tegel, according to the Swedish newspaper “Svensk Dam”.
The absence of the 80-year-old came as a surprise to many royal fans, as they were able to enjoy an appearance by Silvia during the day. Together with Prince Daniel, Crown Princess Victoria and King Carl Gustaf, she took part in the ceremony marking the opening of the Swedish Parliament.
At the festive event in the evening, other royal ladies caused a stir. Crown Princess Victoria appeared in a black and white robe with a floral pattern, with her husband Prince Daniel beaming at her side. Pregnant Princess Sofia appeared at the concert alongside her husband Prince Carl Philip in a burgundy velvet dress, under which her baby bump was already visible. Princess Madeleine appeared in a black, sleeveless ensemble with draping at the neckline. She was also accompanied by her husband Chris O’Neill.
Just last week, three generations of Swedish royal ladies visited Paris: Crown Princess Victoria travelled to the French capital with her daughter Estelle and Queen Silvia for the Paralympic Summer Games. On Friday, September 6, they attended the equestrian competitions in front of the Palace of Versailles, where the Swedish team competed in the team event.
