In 1999 the original “Queer as Folk” shocked the conservative British audience and thrilled the queer community, thanks to a show entirely centered on three gay men from Manchester told uncensored and stereotyped. After a remake of the first two thousand set in Pittsburgh, the story returns to TV with creator Russell T. Davies as an executive producer, in a further evolution of the show that aims to broaden its intersectional breath. The new cast includes Ryan O’Connell and Fin Argus, who play Julian and Mingus respectively. We both asked about their relationship to the original series.
Finn: “I was one year old when the show came out and unfortunately they didn’t do any kindergarten screenings, so I picked it up later and absolutely loved it.”
Ryan: “I was 12 and I hadn’t come out yet, I was very excited. Watching the show, my mind exploded because it was the first time I saw being gay on TV. “
