Rumors arose in the Belgian media that Soudal-QuickStep might be sold. “There are always people asking how much the equipment should cost. They ask me, but I am not the owner, ”he clarified in his weekly column on HLN.
Let’s remember that the owner of the majority of shares (80%) of the structure is Zdeněk Bakala, a billionaire Czech investor with more than one business at his command, where cycling is not necessarily his highest priority. “This is a small business for Bakala. In the last few years I have had five potential buyers, one of whom was Belgian.”
In any case, the owner’s position is open to consider offers from those who wish to acquire the team. “We have sponsors through 2027 and a good pipeline of riders, if a potential buyer comes along it would be good to hear,” Lefevere said of the thoughts of someone further up the chain.
However, that does not mean that they will sell soon, why? “Bakala doesn’t need the money. He is more interested in someone who wants to buy some shares and do a capital raise to make a few millions,” he revealed.
Regarding the information obtained by the same means that an American investor would put 15 million euros on the table, he categorically ruled it out. “There are 3 million for me and 12 million for Bakala. Do you think you need that? He’s really not interested,” she closed.
