The Ministry of Public Administration has issued a notification leaving the verdict of the Appellate Division unchanged on the quota.

Law Minister Anisul Haque officially announced the issuance of the notification at a joint press conference at his residence in Gulshan in the capital on Tuesday (July 23).

The minister said, we have kept our word. The government fixed the quota based on the judgment of the Appellate Division. There is no opportunity to do anything outside the judgment of the Supreme Court. Following the judgment of the Appellate Division, the quota system has been reformed.

Regarding the steps taken by the government during the agitation for the past few days, the law minister said, “As per the orders of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, I have informed the students that whenever they want to sit, we are ready.” They told us their demands. We then informed the Attorney General to take action to bring forward the hearing date. On the same day, I told the journalists that it is possible to come to a fair solution regarding the quota. The court then ruled on the quota. Then I told you that notification will be issued on Tuesday. We were able to do that.

Earlier, the Appellate Division announced the verdict of the government’s appeal against the High Court’s order regarding quota enforcement. In the judgment, the court fixed 93 general quotas for government jobs, five for freedom fighters, one for minorities and one per cent for disabled and third gender.

Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, Education Minister Mahibul Hasan Chowdhury Naufel and State Minister for Information and Broadcasting Mohammad Ali Arafat were present at the press conference.
