India’s young Grandmaster R Pragyananda wins Norwegian Chess Open He won the Group A title. Pragyananda won the title with 7.5 points from nine rounds. Israel’s Marcel Efroimski came in second and Sweden’s Im Young Min Xio came in third.

Indian cricketer Praneeth finished sixth with six points. Pragyananda defeated Praneeth in the final round to win the title. He went undefeated in the ninth round without a single defeat. Pragyananda has six wins and three draws from the tournament.

The 16-year-old Pragyananda has been in the news recently for defeating world champion Magnus Carlsen twice. With the victory in Norway, Pragyananda qualified for the Chess Olympiad to be held in India next month. The player is included in the India Team B team.

Vaishali, the sister of Pragyananda, the son of Ramesh Babu and Nagalakshmi, a bank employee from Padi, Tamil Nadu, is also an International Master. RB Ramesh is the coach of Pragyananda and Vaishali. Pragyananda once said that his dream is to get 3000 rating points. Pragyananda entered the world of chess through the academy of former world champion Viswanathan Anand.
