New Delhi: The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has appointed India’s former fielding coach R Sridhar as the assistant coach of its team. He has been included for the series against New Zealand and South Africa. He was the fielding coach of the Indian team for seven consecutive years from 2014 to 2021. Let us tell you that R Sridhar has worked in Team India during Ravi Shastri’s tenure (coaching). Afghanistan has to play a Test match against New Zealand in September and then a three-match ODI series against South Africa. The Test match will be played in Greater Noida, India and the ODI series in Sharjah. 54-year-old Sridhar, who played as a left-arm spinner for Hyderabad in the 90s, started his coaching career in 2001. He joined India’s junior team during the 2014 Under-19 World Cup. He was the spin bowling coach of Kings XI Punjab team in the IPL from 2014 to 2017. After this, he was also associated with the Indian team this year. Sridhar is a Level-3 certified coach. The ACB has said that Sridhar may be given a longer contract in the future.

R Sridhar’s Career

R Sridhar never got a chance to play for the Indian cricket team. But he has definitely done wonders in domestic cricket. Sridhar has played 35 first class matches and 14 List A matches, in which he has taken 91 and 14 wickets respectively.
