Rabat – The city of Rabat, in the person of its mayor, Fatiha El Moudni, was elected president of the International Network for Urban Lighting (Lighting Urban Community International-LUCI) during its Annual General Assembly, held from 24 to 27 April in Montpellier in France , the city council was informed.
Rabat, the city of light and the cultural capital of Morocco, is the first African and Arab city to take this position since the creation of this network in 2002 bringing together 73 cities and 43 associated members who are convinced that light contributes with a sustainable and sustainable urban center. with the socio-economic development of cities.
In addition to Rabat, the LUCI office includes the cities of Montpellier (France), as the first vice president, Seoul (South Korea), the second vice president, Glasgow (Scotland), elected to the treasury, as well as the cities of USA. Eindhoven (Netherlands), Helsinki and Oulu (Finland) and London (England), as members.
This time, the mayor of Rabat, Fatiha El Moudni, who was represented by her deputy Badre Tnacheri at the general assembly of the network, showed her pride in being the chairman of LUCI and her determination to promote the actions of this network.
“As President, I will focus all my efforts to strengthen links between members, promote best practices and encourage the adoption of smart and sustainable lighting solutions in cities around the world,” said Mr. El Moudni in a declaration for the MAP.
“We are confident that with these actions, LUCI will continue to thrive as a global platform for knowledge sharing and collaboration to improve urban lighting,” she said.

In a speech to the work of the Statutory Affairs Committee, Ms. El Moudni expressed her strong commitment to the dynamics of UCLG, ensuring continuity in the projects and incentive activities carried out by the Kingdom’s Capital, to promote democracy . , cooperation and social inclusion.
She also emphasized the role of political leaders in speeding up the implementation of the SDGs, through joint investment, promoting multifaceted partnerships, capacity building, communication and exchange of experience in local governance matters.
Ms. El Moudni, who was also the treasurer of UCLG, also participated in the celebration of 20 years of the union of UCLG, and she took part in the discussion and recommendations that arose from this work.
