Rabat: Opening of the third edition of the National Festival of the Mohamed El Jem Prize for Youth Theater

Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, this cultural event is organized until May 4 by the “Friends of the Mohamed El-Jem Theater” in partnership with the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Communication. It is held at the Mohammed V Theater and the Bahnini Hall in Rabat, with the participation of 12 theatrical productions in official competition.

The opening ceremony of this edition was marked by a vibrant tribute to the actor Mohamed Al Athir as well as to the director Hamid Boukili, for their contribution to the enrichment of the artistic and theatrical scene in Morocco.

On this occasion, the members of the jury of this edition were introduced. Chaired by the writer and academic Mohamed Mustapha Kabbaj, the jury is composed of the actor and director Yassine Ahajjam, the actress Quds Joundol, the playwright Hassan Nafali and the writer and playwright Karim Fahl Cherkaoui.

Speaking on this occasion, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaid, indicated that this festival, an initiative of one of the pillars of Moroccan theater, encourages young talents interested in this art, highlighting the growing interest of young people in theater.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Secretary General of the Ministry – Department of Youth – Mustapha Messaoudi, the Minister also highlighted the career of Mohamed El Jem, a talented artist “who puts his artistic expertise at the service of Moroccan youth passionate about theater”, noting that this event will allow to discover new talents and contribute to the development of Moroccan theater.

For his part, the founding president of the Association of Friends of Mohamed El Jem for the Theater, the artist Mohamed El Jem indicated that this festival has become an annual event among the important national cultural events aimed at supporting young people interested in theater.

Mr. El Jem also said that the idea of ​​organizing an annual youth theater festival came from the remarkable presence of young people passionate about this art, noting that this event aims to contribute to the enrichment of the national cultural and artistic scene.

This edition is marked by the participation of 12 theatrical performances, which will be in the running for the grand prize (contribution of the artist Mohamed Al Jem), as well as the staging prize, the production prize, the scenography prize, the best actor prize, the best actress prize and the hope prize.

The Festival will also see the organization of technical workshops for the benefit of the troupes participating in the production, staging and scenography, who will be supervised by professors from the Higher Institute of Dramatic Art and Cultural Animation (ISADAC).
