On this occasion, the resident coordinator of the United Nations System in Morocco, Nathalie Fustier, indicated that this meeting made it possible to discuss the results of the Summit of the Future, held on September 22 and 23 at the United Nations headquarters. in New York, as a decisive step for multilateralism and global governance.
The Pact for the Future, adopted in September 2024 in New York, proposes 56 concrete measures and is structured around several essential themes, she said, citing in this sense the reform of multilateralism, sustainable development, international peace and security, human rights and technological and digital cooperation.
Ms. Fustier also stressed that one of the major axes of this Pact is the reform of the international financial architecture to give developing countries, particularly African countries, a stronger voice in multilateral decisions, recalling that this question was at the heart of the High-Level Ministerial Conference held in Rabat in February 2024.
In this regard, Morocco, through its leadership within the Group of Friends of Middle-Income Countries, plays a key role, she said, affirming that the Kingdom has demonstrated constant commitment to promote cooperation. South-South and triangular, thus allowing the sharing of successful experiences in areas such as energy transition and sustainable infrastructure.
Likewise, the UN official assured that this Pact is not limited to the financial aspect but also addresses crucial issues relating to international peace and security, adding that world leaders have reaffirmed their desire to intensify efforts diplomatic efforts to prevent conflicts, strengthen multilateral systems and modernize key institutions to better confront contemporary threats.
Furthermore, Ms. Fustier noted that the United Nations System in Morocco, through its country team, plays a key role in the implementation of the collective commitments made within the framework of the Pact for the Future, in close collaboration with the national partners, with a view to supporting the Kingdom in achieving its sustainable development objectives, in a concrete manner and aligned with national priorities.
For his part, the President of the Diplomatic Foundation, Abdelati Habek, stressed that the Future Summit was held in a context marked by multiple global crises, geopolitical challenges and natural disasters, requiring the intervention of the international community in order to put in place effective mechanisms and solutions to deal with these unprecedented crises.
This Summit represents a crucial step in securing a better future for humanity, Mr. Habek continued, noting that United Nations member states have adopted a “Compact for the Future” which includes a declaration on future generations and a global digital pact and which also addresses the areas of peace, security, sustainable development and the transformation of global governance.
The Future Summit, he noted, was an opportunity for Morocco to reaffirm its attachment to the Charter of the United Nations and its firm commitment to breathe new life into the multilateral system.
The President of the Diplomatic Foundation recalled, in this context, the Message sent by His Majesty King Mohammed VI to the participants in the Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF), held in October 2023 in Marrakech, in which the Sovereign stressed that “The economic, social and political developments of recent years certainly call for a reform of the institutions and rules governing multilateralism.”
Morocco considers multilateral action as a fundamental lever for developing countries in order to defend their interests, highlight their national priorities, take advantage of cooperation opportunities between nations and share experiences and expertise, argued Ms. .
And to note that the Kingdom has based its multilateral diplomacy on the principles of clarity, realism and innovation and has always contributed effectively to the various commitments of the international community in terms of security, peace and stability.
This meeting was marked by interventions by the German Ambassador and representatives of the Netherlands and Zambia, focused on the contribution of the facilitating States to this UN Summit so that it can achieve the expected objectives.
