Rabat: Winners of the 2nd “Al Qods Acharif” Prize for Journalistic Excellence Revealed

During this second edition, which bears the name of the former director of Laâyoune TV, the late Mohamed Laghdaf Eddah, the winners’ productions were divided into three categories, namely the podcast, the television report and the written-electronic press article.

The jury of the Prize, chaired by Palestinian academic and novelist Walid Shurafa, professor of higher education at Al-Quds University, included many professors and researchers in the field of journalism and media in Morocco and Palestine.

Thus, the prize in the “Podcast” category was awarded to student Jabrane Massad from Palestine for his work entitled “Ici Radio Al Qods”, as well as to students Oumaima Kazir and Salaheddine Damnati from Morocco (ex aequo), for their respective works “Cri” and “Manara” (Lighthouse).

In the “TV Report” category, the Prize was awarded to student Mohamed Hamidi from Morocco for his work on “the Israelization of education in Al Qods” and to two Palestinian students Ranad Errimaoui and Sundous Aouad for their joint work “Sing for Al Qods”.

In the category of print-electronic press article, student Leila Ghrabi won the prize for her work entitled “Martyrs of Morocco: sacrifice of a soul to revive the land of peace.”

On this occasion, he was preceded by the presentation of the medal of courage and bravery to the Palestinian journalists’ union. This is a medal awarded by the “ARRIBAT” Observatory for observation, monitoring and evaluation under the Bayt Mal Al-Quds Acharif Agency, to pay tribute to journalists who have made sacrifices in defense of the values ​​of freedom and justice.

In addition, the annual bonus for supporting freedom of the media and the press in Palestine was awarded to two media institutions designated from Al Quds by the Observatory team, namely “Yaboos Radio” and the “Mouhit” platform.

During this ceremony, a posthumous tribute was paid to the Palestinian journalist, the late Mahmoud Maarouf, former director of the office of the newspaper “Al Quds Al Arabi” in Rabat.

Speaking on this occasion, the director in charge of the management of the Bayt Mal Al Qods Acharif Agency, Mohamed Salem Cherkaoui, stressed that Morocco continues to assume its historical responsibility in defending the Palestinian cause, under the enlightened leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al Qods Committee, by fulfilling its missions of constant solidarity with the Palestinian brothers and their legitimate institutions, according to a realistic approach, which comes from a perfect assimilation of the effects of the profound changes that the entire Middle East region is experiencing.

Mr. Cherkaoui cited in particular the Al-Qods Call, signed on March 30, 2019 in Rabat by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, and His Holiness the Pope of the Vatican, as a reference document calling for respecting the specific character of the Holy City of Al-Qods and guaranteeing the followers of the three heavenly religions the exercise of their worship in complete serenity, freedom and security.

“The values ​​of law, freedom and justice are what bring us together today in this 2nd edition of the Al Qods Acharif Prize for journalistic excellence in development media intended for students of media institutes in Morocco and Palestine,” he said, while saluting the organizers of this initiative which offers a new opportunity for training, competition and self-denial in order to make the voice of law heard.

For his part, the Palestinian ambassador to Morocco, Jamal Choubaki, stressed that the organization of this award and the tribute paid to Palestinian journalists is a recognition that honors the professional and responsible career of Palestinian journalists as well as the Palestinian cause.

This initiative, he said, is in line with a forward-thinking approach adopted by the Kingdom through the Bayt Mal Al Qods Acharif Agency, the ISIC of Rabat, various media and academic institutions as well as Moroccan forces, to support the Palestinian press movement.

For his part, the Minister of Youth, Culture and Communication, Mohamed Mehdi Bensaïd, indicated in a speech read on his behalf, that the Al Qods Acharif Awards for journalistic excellence in development media testify to the intensive work and continuous achievements of the Bayt Mal Al Qods Acharif Agency, in accordance with the High Guidelines of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Chairman of the Al Qods Committee, with a view to supporting the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people in consecration of the Kingdom’s constant positions of principle with regard to the Palestinian cause and its commitment to the Maqdessis for decades.

Mr. Bensaïd added that these awards also reflect the Sovereign’s constant desire to encourage journalism and the media as an instrument for raising awareness in society, having a positive influence, promoting development and cultural and civilizational rapprochement between societies.

The minister also highlighted the efforts of the late Moroccan journalist Mohamed Laghdaf Eddah who demonstrated commitment and devotion, evoking the great media competence of the deceased and his professionalism marked by a spirit of sincere patriotism and attachment to the constants of the Nation.

For his part, the director of ISIC, Abdellatif Bensfia, considered that the celebration of the winners of the Al-Quds Acharif Prize for journalistic excellence in the development media of Morocco and Palestine “is proof that this project with humble beginnings is now that of all of us, which requires us to work for its development.”

Mr. Bensfia also indicated that the inherent objective of this initiative is to emphasize that “the idea of ​​Palestine, with all its symbols, is present in all minds.”

The creation of this Prize is part of the Agency’s interest in consolidating the humanitarian, social and solidarity dimension in its action, in line with the High Royal Instructions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, President of the Al-Quds Committee, consisting of mobilizing all efforts to support the Palestinians and their institutions.

The Agency intends, through this Prize, to dedicate the awareness of the rising generations on the Palestinian cause, and to encourage students in journalism and communication in Morocco and Palestine to initiate studies and research on the reality and the future of Al-Quds, in consecration of the efforts made by the Bayt Mal Al Qods Acharif Agency in the social, economic and humanitarian fields.
