The grandson of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, Yonatan Yosef, who serves as a councilor in the Jerusalem Municipality, responded today (Tuesday) to the uproar surrounding a comment he wrote to Knesset member Ahmed Tibi.

The storm began after Tibi wrote a tweet about Jena Zakharna who was killed by IDF fire in Jenin. Tibi wrote: “Another Palestinian death that is added to the deadliest year in terms of the number of Palestinian deaths in many years. A war crime.” In response, Yosef Latibi wrote: “Soon at your place.”

Among those outraged by Yosef’s reaction is Yanel Jabarin, a social activist, who wrote: “Meet the kohanist and grandson of Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, a member of the Jerusalem City Council in the Aryeh King faction, calling and threatening to kill Knesset member Ahmed Tibi.”

“Furthermore, every Friday he curses the demonstrators in the Sheik Jarach in partnership with Rami Ben Yehuda and the bibists. Jonathan may not kill with his own hand, but his words penetrate deep into the hearts of his boys in Jerusalem.”

Yonatan Yosef commented on the uproar, and told the Srogim: “I’m tired of Tibi slandering the IDF soldiers and calling them murderers. I don’t understand how to this day an advisor to a rabbi who commits murder serves as a member of the Knesset and receives a salary at the expense of the Israeli taxpayer while he serves the enemy. I wish for the death of all haters of Israel.”

Yosef also added: “I am a person who keeps law and order and we are in a democratic country and writing things is allowed in accordance with freedom of speech and the provisions of the law. I looked at the counter reactions and it turns out that these are those who have a rich past of slandering the IDF, the settlers and all that is holy and dear to the people of Israel.”
