BELMONT, N.C. – A disturbing discovery was made on Tuesday morning when a rabid bat was found inside a home in Gaston County. According to the Gaston County Police Department, the bat was found around 10 a.m. on Maple Circle in Belmont.

Prompt action was taken, and the bat was immediately sent to the North Carolina Laboratory of Public Health in Raleigh for testing. The lab results, which were received on Tuesday afternoon, confirmed the bat had tested positive for rabies.

In response, the Gaston County Animal Care and Enforcement team conducted a thorough neighborhood canvass in the Maple Circle area. Their aim was to inform the community about the positive rabies results and ensure that all family animals in the area had up-to-date rabies vaccinations.
