Racial Discrimination in American College: Indian-Descent Professor Takes Court Case

by time news

An Indian-origin associate professor has filed a lawsuit against a college in Wellesley, Massachusetts, for racial and gender discrimination.

Indian-origin Lakshmi Balachandra joined Babson College in 2012 as an associate professor in the Department of Entrepreneurship.

Lakshmi has accused the former head of the Department of Entrepreneurship, Professor Andrew Corbett, of racial and gender discrimination in the workplace, favoring white and male teachers with awards and privileges.

Corbett has been overseeing the scheduling of classes and allotment of subjects to teachers. At that time, Lakshmi requested to conduct some lessons, but Corbett gave permission to conduct only certain lessons.

In this regard, he has filed a petition in the district court in Boston, the provincial capital, on February 27, The Boston Globe reported.

In her petition, Lakshmi mentioned that due to such discrimination, opportunities to engage in research related work and various leadership responsibilities were denied.

Lakshmi has also filed a complaint with the Massachusetts Anti-Discrimination Commission regarding the incident, said her lawyer Monica Shah.

Babson College informed about this that they will fully investigate the allegation and take legal action against it.
