On the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the traditional event “24 hour bike at the Nürburgring”, two Besi&Friends as well as national and international teams from FUCHS LUBRICANTS GERMANY GmbH collected donations for a “good cause” this year.

From July 21st to 24th, a total of six national and international teams, with participants from Gliwice (Poland), Kaiserslautern, Kiel and Mannheim as well as Christian Thometzek as individual riders, came together on the Nürburgring for the 24-hour cycle race, which meanwhile has almost 6,000 participants is one of the largest cycling events. Three disciplines were represented this year, with three mountain bike teams and three racing bike teams as well as one individual starter.

The Fuchs Cycle Racing Team, which can now look back on an almost complete history of participation in the legendary 24-hour race on the Nürburgring, has set up a team camp directly on the racetrack almost professionally with a lot of experience from previous years and warmly welcomed the guest drivers from Besi&Friends.

As a common goal, it was agreed this year to collect donations for the Besi&Friends Foundation. The participants in the six teams donated their participation fees, which the employer, FUCHS LUBRICANTS GERMANY GmbH, thankfully paid for in the run-up to the event for the six registered teams. Furthermore, Christian Thometzek organized a Facebook fundraiser, in which donations could be made either with a lump sum or an amount per lap driven during and up to one week after the end of the event.

The managing director Kay-Peter Wagner, of FUCHS LUBRICANTS GERMANY GmbH, provided additional motivation, who promised an additional donation of 900 euros in the run-up to the event for successful participation.

Highly motivated and thanks to the support of energy food products, 80 laps on the mountain bike route and 67 laps on the legendary Nordschleife were completed together. The motivation would have been enough for more laps in the “Green Hell” of the Eifel, but unfortunately – as was often the case in the past – the 24-hour race had to be canceled by the race control two hours before the regular end due to the weather. Strong winds and rain that started at the same time posed too great a risk to the health of the participants. The race was therefore ended early to prevent accidents. Despite the missing two hours of racing time, a total of 1,965 euros in donations were raised for the Besi&Friends Foundation.

The atmosphere in the team camp defied the weather conditions, the accompanying persons and the participants themselves supported each other throughout the race and made “Rad am Ring 2023” a successful and unforgettable sports weekend.
