Rada voted for Ukraine’s withdrawal from the CIS Antiterrorist Center

The Ukrainian Parliament adopted a law on the country’s withdrawal from the decision to establish the Anti-Terrorist Center of the CIS member states, according to the official website of the Verkhovna Rada. 309 deputies voted for this decision.

“Ukraine during 2014-2015. did not take part in the practical measures provided for by the Program of Cooperation of the CIS Member States in the fight against terrorism and other violent manifestations of extremism, therefore it is expedient to terminate Ukraine’s participation in the activities of the Anti-Terrorism Center of the CIS Member States,” the message says.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky also decided to withdraw from the Decision on Amendments and Additions to the Regulations on the CIS Antiterrorist Center, signed on November 28, 2006 in Minsk. The decision of the Parliament comes into force the day after its publication.

The Anti-Terrorist Center of the CIS Member States is an active specialized sectoral body of the CIS, which was established on June 21, 2001. It is designed to ensure coordination of interaction between the competent authorities of the Commonwealth countries in the field of combating international terrorism and other manifestations of extremism.

In addition, the deputies decided to withdraw from the agreement on the rules for determining the origin of goods from developing countries when granting tariff preferences within the framework of the general system of preferences. The explanatory note states that the withdrawal from the agreement will not affect the interests of Ukrainian producers and exporters, since the current Ukrainian legislation does not provide for the provision of tariff preferences within the framework of the general system of preferences for developing countries.

Earlier, Ukraine has already announced its withdrawal from other CIS agreements. In May 2018, Ukraine ceased participation in the work of the statutory bodies of the Commonwealth, its representation in the statutory bodies of the CIS was closed. In the same year, Kiev began the process of withdrawing from cooperation agreements. In February 2021, Ukraine withdrew from two airspace agreements, and in the summer of the same year, it announced its withdrawal from the consumer protection agreement.
