/ The Olympic team coach, Radhi Shanishil, said that the training camp held for the Olympic team in Basra will conclude today, Wednesday, and the team will return to Baghdad before heading to Qatar on the 7th of this month in preparation for the Asian Cup finals qualifying for the Paris Olympics in the middle of next month.
Radhi Shanishil told Agency, “The training camp held for the Olympic team in Basra Governorate was an important stop before entering the Asian Cup finals competitions in the middle of next month.”
He explained, “The team played two trial matches against Al-Shorta last Sunday, which ended in a 1-1 draw, and with Naft Basra yesterday night at the conclusion of the camp, which ended with the Olympic victory with a score of 4-3,” indicating that “the team benefited in both matches technically and physically, but it aspires to benefit.” “The greatest thing is to meet Japan in a friendly manner during our short stay in Qatar on the 11th of next April, especially since the Olympic team begins its journey in the AFC U-23 Championship by facing Thailand on the 16th of next April, as Thailand’s style is similar to the style of the Japanese team.”
He pointed out that “the external clubs in which our Iraqi professionals play were informed to facilitate their mission by recruiting them to the Iraqi Olympic team for the tournament, and some clubs were cooperating with us,” indicating that “the clubs have the right not to allow our players to represent Iraq since the tournament falls outside the days of (FIFA Day) “And their discharge will be in accordance with the relationships and convictions generated by the clubs.”
