Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood (52) is seriously ill. As a result, the European concerts of the Radiohead offshoot band The Smile in August have to be cancelled, including gigs in Frankfurt (20.8.) and München (21.8.).
“A few days ago, Jonny became seriously ill with an infection that required emergency hospital treatment, including intensive care,” said a statement on Radiohead’s official Instagram profile. The all-clear was also given there regarding Greenwood’s health: He is out of danger and will return home soon. Other media had previously reported.
On Friday evening, the band’s official merchandise store’s website marked the eight concerts in Germany, Latvia, Poland, Austria, France, Spain and Switzerland, which were scheduled to take place from August 13 to 28, as “cancelled.” On the instructions of Jonny Greenwood’s medical team, all engagements were canceled until he had fully recovered, the statement continued on Instagram.
The Smile is the side project of British Radiohead musicians Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood. Jazz drummer Tom Skinner (Sons of Kemet) is also a member of the band.
