The Majorcan, winner of 22 Grand Slam titles, officially announced online this Thursday 10 October that he will end his career at the end of the Davis Cup, which is scheduled to play with Spain from 19 to 24 November.

It’s just a matter of weeks. In just over a month Rafael Nadal will no longer officially be a professional tennis player. The Majorcan, 38 years old, confirmed online on Thursday 10 October that this year 2024 spent on the world circuit will truly be his last. “I’m here to tell you that I’m leaving professional tennis”the southpaw said in a video posted to his X account, but added that it was true “enthusiastic” with the idea of finishing by playing this Davis Cup final in his country.

However, this summer, the Spaniard with 22 Grand Slam titles including 14 Roland-Garros had hinted that he could do it again in 2025, just to say goodbye to the various prestigious tournaments he has won. But the new physical problems encountered at the beginning of the school year undoubtedly got the better of this last resistance.

Nadal, currently 154th in the ATP ranking, had given up playing the Laver Cup, an exhibition tennis tournament which took place in Berlin from 20 to 24 September. In the last two years he has been away from the pitch for almost a year, he has only been able to play 23 matches and since then he has never regained his previous level.
