Rafael Nadal won in three sets

Successful start for Rafael Nadal at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Rome. The 22-time Grand Slam winner from Spain defeated the Belgian qualifier Zizou Bergs on Thursday after falling behind with 4:6, 6:3 and 6:4.
Nadal managed an early break to make it 3-1 in the first round, but then lacked intensity and length in his shots. Bergs knew how to use this to his advantage and deservedly won the opening set 6:4.
At the beginning of the second set, however, the tide turned on the well-attended Center Court. Nadal now found his way into the game better and better and put Bergs under pressure with his groundstrokes. Ultimately, the Mallorcan’s three-set success was never in danger.
In the second round on Saturday, Nadal will face the seventh-seeded Pole Hubert Hurkacz. It will be the first duel between the two.
