Srinagar: The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi has been suspended in Jammu and Kashmir. Congress sources said that the action was taken following a sudden security lapse. The Jodo Yatra, which resumed on Friday morning, was supposed to cover 11 km today. But stopped after one kilometer.

After passing the Banihal tunnel on the way to Srinagar, a huge crowd arrived. The Congress said the trip was halted because there were not enough security personnel to control them. The Congress accused the sudden withdrawal of security personnel as a serious lapse and the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s failure to manage matters.

Congress leaders also said that Rahul Gandhi could not move for 30 minutes. Then Rahul was put in a security vehicle and ended his journey for today. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah also joined the yatra at Banihal.

AICC General Secretary KC Venugopal accused the police of failing to provide security to both of them. KC Venugopal said that they are playing with Rahul Gandhi’s life. Rahul Gandhi also responded that the Bharat Jodo Yatra was stopped because it was not possible to control the crowd. Rahul said that he will continue with the journey even if it is temporarily stopped.
