Wayanad: Nineteen SFI activists have been arrested in connection with the attack on Rahul Gandhi’s MP’s office. Police arrested 19 people, including SFI district president Joel Joseph and secretary Jishnu Shaji. Police will take action against more SFI activists today. Security has been beefed up in the district in the wake of the violence.

Youth Congress and Congress-KSU activists took to the streets to protest the SFI attack. The CPM’s flexes and banners were destroyed in several places. Youth Congress activists marched to the AKG Center. The ADGP has been directed by the police headquarters to investigate the attack on Rahul Gandhi’s office.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan directed the Additional Chief Secretary for Home Affairs to submit a report within a week of the inquiry. The CM also directed to immediately suspend the Kalpetta DySP who was on duty at the spot.

The SFI state leadership rejected the strike and the violence. The SFI said it would take organizational action against those who led the strike. The leadership also said that the SFI state committee had not decided to take up the issue raised in connection with the Supreme Court order regarding the buffer zone of the protected forest area.

The march led by the SFI Wayanad District Committee to Rahul Gandhi’s office today had no knowledge or consent of the SFI state leadership. The SFI said in a statement that it would look into what happened in this regard and take strong and exemplary organizational action against the activists who led the strike. The public and students need to recognize the political agenda of the right wing to highlight this isolated incident and portray the SFI as bad. State President K Anushree and State Secretary PM Arsho said in a statement that the students would mobilize and resist the right – wing move to attack the SFI.
