The T20 series between India and New Zealand (IND vs NZ) is in progress. India beat New Zealand by five wickets in the first match of the series to take a 1-0 lead. The series follows the conclusion of the T20 World Cup, but India and New Zealand have undergone major changes from the teams that played in the World Cup. With some of the key players from both teams not being part of the series, a rookie line-up is competing with each other.

Although the Indian team is made up of newcomers, the Indian team has gained a lot of attention through the IPL and other domestic tournaments. But some of the New Zealand players are new to Indian fans. One such player is New Zealand all-rounder Rachin Ravindra. Rachin, who is of Indian descent, has been named in the Kiwis squad following the withdrawal of Kiwis all-rounder Jimmy Neesham from the series.

Though he could not make a significant impact in the match against India, now the player is getting attention because of the curiosity in his name. Rach’s parents, who are big cricket fans, named their son after Indian legends Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar.

He made his Test debut for New Zealand in the International T20 against Bangladesh in Dhaka in September. The newcomer to the Kiwis has played six international matches for the Kiwis. Rach has scored 54 runs in six matches and is the only left-arm bowler to take six wickets in those matches.

Rachin’s stellar performance in the 2016 Under-19 ODI World Cup opened the door for the Kiwis. His father is Ravi Krishnamurthy, a software engineer from Bengaluru. Ravi and his family moved to New Zealand in 1990.
