The German rail network was affected by massive disruptions on Saturday – probably mainly in the middle of the country. In the afternoon, Deutsche Bahn gave the all-clear.

There were serious disruptions on many rail connections on Saturday. The reason for this was a disruption to the railway’s GSM-R radio system, as a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn confirmed to t-online. In the late afternoon, Deutsche Bahn finally gave the all-clear: the disruption had been resolved and rail traffic in central Germany had resumed. However, disruptions could continue until the end of operations.

Trains are not allowed to run if this radio fails, writes the “Hessenschau”. The outage primarily affected the greater Frankfurt am Main area. The railway stated that all connections that run through central Germany were also affected.

“Nationwide disruption: train service suspended on all lines,” the Hessischer Rundfunk quoted the message on an information board in Frankfurt am Main’s main train station. When asked at midday, the spokeswoman denied that all train service in Germany had been suspended.

DB Regio told the German Press Agency that all regional and S-Bahn traffic in the Rhine-Main area had been affected.
