This is a promise from Emmanuel Macron. The Rail Pass, which allows young people aged 16 to 27 to travel unlimitedly on certain trains during the summer for 49 euros per month, sold 100,000 copies in mid-July, SNCF refers to Le Parisien, confirming information from BFMTV.

In the forecasts presented at its launch in early June, SNCF expects 700,000 sales throughout the summer, a figure that seems difficult to achieve. This pass, valid for a rolling month, is only available in July and August. It can be used to buy a trip for one day that leaves the same city (including in the case of connection), and at the same time slot. Another limit: it is only possible to make six reservations. TER and Intercités – including at night – are included in this offer, but not TGV and OUIGO.

Internal journeys within Île-de-France are excluded

The Rail Pass is available in all regions of the country, except for journeys within Île-de-France, given the complexity of the integration of the system. If you change stations in Paris, you will therefore have to pay for a metro, bus or RER ticket. However it is possible to use the Rail Pass from Île-de-France to another region or from another region to Île-de-France.

To get a subscription, you must go on the SNCF website and follow the indicated steps. Once purchased, however, you will have to book – at no additional cost – the trains you want manually to get the tickets.
