Atmospheric mantle circulation in the Bay of Bengal is likely to change to a barometric depression in the next 24 hours. It is likely to move further west-northwest towards the coast of Tamil Nadu in the coming days. The Chennai Meteorological Department had forecast showers in various districts of Tamil Nadu due to this.
Meanwhile, it has been raining in various parts of Tamil Nadu including Chennai, Chengalpattu, Delta and Thenmavattam since early this morning.
According to the Met Office, heavy rains will continue in Tamil Nadu for the next three hours.

Chennai, Kanchipuram, Chengalpattu, Tiruvallur, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Perambalur, Ariyalur, Namakkal, Pudukottai, Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin, Nellai, Kanyakumari, Tanjore, Thiruvarur, Nagai and Mayiladuthurai will receive showers for the next 3 hours.
