On December 12, 1988, the premiere of “Rain Man, the rain man” (aired tonight on Sky Hits at 1.35) is organized in New York, a film directed by Barry Levinson with Dustin Hoffman and Tom Cruise which will be broadcast tonight on Sky Cinema Oscar at 18.55. The protagonist is Charlie Babbitt (Tom Cruise), a car salesman who is up to his neck in debt and after the death of his father hopes to use the inheritance to boost his finances. Too bad that the businessman has left all the money to Raymond, the brother Charlie has never known and who suffers from autism. Raymond lives in a psychiatric clinic in Ohio and Charlie decides to kidnap him with the aim of becoming his guardian. Charlie’s girlfriend (Valeria Golino) leaves him because she doesn’t want to participate in his plan and the two brothers take a long drive to Los Angeles (Raymond is afraid to take the plane) and learn to know and love each other. In Las Vegas, Charlie takes advantage of his brother’s incredible memory skills and wins a lot of money at the green table that allows him to repay his debts. Eventually, after realizing that it is impossible to manage his brother alone, Charlie decides to bring Raymond back to the clinic and gives up his paternal inheritance. However, she promises to visit him often. “Rain man” is a film that deals with the theme of autism without doing good or easy moralizing. The relationship between the two brothers, who have been away for years, becomes more and more intense. Soon the past re-emerges and the suspicious and greedy Charlie remembers: the mysterious “Rain Man”, who sang songs to him as a child, was none other than his brother Raymond.
