Civil Protection Weather Alert: warning for rain and snow at low altitudes
Humid and unstable currents will affect the western Mediterranean and will be responsible for the worsening of weather conditions in the italian north-West, extending on Tuesday to the rest of the Centre-North, with precipitation that will take on a snowy character in the Alpine and pre-alpine sectors, and down to low altitude in southern Piedmont and the Ligurian hinterland.
Based on the available forecasts, the department of Civil Protection in agreement with the regions involved, which are responsible for activating the civil protection systems in the territories concerned, has issued a warning of adverse weather conditions. The weather phenomena, impacting the different areas of the country, could determine hydrogeological and hydraulic criticalities which are reported, in a national summary, in the national criticality and alert bulletin which can be consulted on the Department’s website (www.protezionecivile.gov.it).
The notice foresees from the evening of Monday 2 February snowfall, up to plains in southern Piedmont and up to 200-400 meters in the hinterland of central-western Liguria. On the basis of the forecasted and ongoing phenomena, it was assessed for the day of Tuesday 3 February, yellow alert on some sectors of Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Umbria, Lazio, Abruzzo and Sardinia..The meteorological and critical situation forecast for Italy is updated daily based on new forecasts and the evolution of phenomena, and is available on the website of the department of Civil Protection (www.protezionecivile.gov.it), together with the general rules of conduct to be followed in case of bad weather.Information on regional alert levels, on specific critical issues that could concern individual territories and on the prevention actions adopted are managed by the territorial civil protection structures, in contact with which the Department will monitor the evolution of the situation.
