Chennai: South India is on high alert for a depression in the Bay of Bengal and a well-marked depression. Extreme low pressure area is expected along the coasts of northern Tamil Nadu and southern Andhra Pradesh this morning. This is the second low pressure area entering Tamil Nadu from the Bay of Bengal in a week. Extreme levels of flood danger were announced in Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh today. In Kerala, isolated heavy rains are forecast for the next two days. Therefore, Yellow Alert has been declared in 12 districts except Thiruvananthapuram and Kollam.

Meanwhile, heavy rains continue in Tamil Nadu. So far, red alerts have been issued in 16 districts. The rainfall is heavy due to the extreme low pressure prevailing along the Chennai coast. It is still raining. Rainfall is likely to increase in the coming hours. The Met Office has warned of strong winds of up to 65 kilometers per hour.

Earlier, a red alert was issued for five districts, including Chennai. The Red Alert was later declared in 11 more districts. A total of 16 districts are currently on red alert. Kanchipuram, Chengalpet, Ranipet and Tiruvallur districts also receive good rainfall. The rains will continue in the southern districts of the state and in the districts of the Cauvery Delta region.
