Rainbow Six Mobile Now Available: Global Launch & Operation Sand Wraith

The world of tactical first-person shooters has expanded today with the worldwide launch of Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Mobile. Ubisoft announced the free-to-play game is now available on iOS and Android devices, bringing the intense, strategic gameplay of the popular console and PC franchise to mobile platforms. This release marks a significant step in the evolution of the Rainbow Six series, aiming to capture a latest audience while appealing to longtime fans of the franchise.

Developed by Ubisoft Montreal, with support from numerous Codev studios, Rainbow Six Mobile aims to deliver an authentic Rainbow Six Siege experience optimized for mobile play. The game centers around 5v5 Player-vs-Player (PvP) matches, primarily in the Attack vs. Defense game mode. Attackers utilize observation drones for reconnaissance and strategically breach destructible environments – walls, floors, and ceilings – while Defenders fortify entry points with barricades and employ spy cameras and traps to secure their locations. The core gameplay emphasizes teamwork, strategic thinking, and high-stakes decision-making, mirroring the tension and depth of the original Siege.

“The entire Rainbow Six Mobile team is incredibly proud of what we’ve built, and we can’t wait for players around the world to finally get their hands on it,” said Olivier Albarracin, Game Director on Rainbow Six Mobile. “Bringing the intensity, strategy, and teamwork of Rainbow Six into a truly mobile-first experience has been both a challenge and a thrill. We’re excited for players to discover the depth of the gameplay, the care our team has poured into every detail, and the new ways this version of Siege can be played and enjoyed on the go.”

Adapting a Console Classic for Mobile

Creating a compelling mobile version of Rainbow Six Siege required a careful balancing act. Developers focused on adapting the complex controls and abilities of the original game to the smaller screen of a mobile device. According to Ubisoft, the team devised innovative solutions to make each on-screen element multi-functional. For example, a button can display cooldown timers while simultaneously activating an ability. The “lean slider” is another example of this streamlined approach, combining aiming, leaning, and shooting into a single input, potentially with auto-shoot functionality.

Rainbow Six Mobile features a variety of game modes, including Bomb, Bomb Rush, and Team Deathmatch. Players can choose from a roster of over 20 Operators, such as Ash, Mute, and Dokkaebi, each with unique abilities and gadgets. The game also includes iconic maps from Rainbow Six Siege, like Bank, Border, Clubhouse, Oregon, and Villa, alongside new maps exclusive to the mobile version: Restaurant and Summit.

Operation Sand Wraith: The Launch Season

Coinciding with the worldwide launch, Rainbow Six Mobile kicks off its first global season, Operation Sand Wraith. This season, arriving a week early, introduces a desert-inspired aesthetic, fresh content, and a new Operator: Deimos. Described as a precise and methodical hunter, Deimos utilizes a unique DeathMARK Tracker ability to target a single enemy, initiating a tense one-on-one duel until one combatant is eliminated. Operation Sand Wraith sets the stage for ongoing content updates and a continually evolving gameplay experience.

The game also features a comprehensive onboarding tutorial designed to introduce new players to the core fundamentals of Rainbow Six gameplay. Players can engage in private matches, ranked matches, and quick play, offering a range of competitive options. Ubisoft has committed to adding new content with each season, ensuring a dynamic and engaging experience for players.

A Legacy of Tactical Gameplay

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, the foundation for the mobile adaptation, has garnered over 80 million registered players since its release. The game is known for its fast-paced, strategic multiplayer experience, where players select unique Operators with specialized skills and gadgets. In 2025, Rainbow Six Siege will celebrate its 10-year anniversary with “Siege X,” a major update introducing a new 6v6 permanent game mode called Dual Front, modernized maps, and visual and audio improvements. Ubisoft continues to invest in and evolve the core Siege experience.
