The GST Council meeting, chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, was the highest decision-making body on the levy of goods and services tax, comprising representatives from all states and Union Territories.

- The Council of Ministers has also approved the imposition of GST on certain food items sold in packets without the brand name (stamp) which were GST exempt.
- It has been approved to levy 5 per cent GST on meat, fish, yoghurt, butter, dried legumes, wheat, pea flour and jaggery sold in unbranded packets.
- At the same time, the GST exemption for unpackaged unbranded items will continue.
- It has been decided to levy 12 per cent GST on hotels renting rooms below Rs 1,000.
- It has been decided to levy GST of 18 per cent on bank charges for checks.
- It has been decided to levy 12 per cent GST on Atlas Map and Charts.
GST on LED lights and knives has been increased from 12% to 18%.
GST on solar water heaters has been raised from 5% to 12%.
GST on flour mills and rice mill machines has been raised from 5% to 18%.
GST on motor pumps used for pumping water has been increased from 12% to 18%.
No decision was taken at the meeting as online games are expected to be taxed at 28% GST. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has said that the committee will be given the opportunity to reconsider and report on the imposition of additional taxes.
