In this context, it has been reported that Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to resign from his post tomorrow. President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has reportedly called on opposition leader Sajid Premadasa to accept the post of prime minister.

President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has telephoned Sajid Premadasa, the leader of the Samagi Jana Balavegaya party, regarding this. However, it has been reported that members of the opposition will meet and discuss the matter. Similarly, Gotabhaya is said to have spoken to Sajith that he could be sent to pass a bill signed by all members of the opposition in connection with the re-election.
