In statements to ‘Der Spiegel’, Cora Brinkmann, Ralf Schumacher’s ex-wife, admitted to being taken by surprise by her former partner’s revelation, despite having had suspicions about his sexual orientation in the past.
“I wish Ralf [Schumacher] had involved me or at least informed me of his decision; it would have been a demonstration of respect towards me. During his F1 career, there were many rumors in the paddock [about his homosexuality]. I always asked him to clarify whether what was said at the time was true, but he always denied it, telling me it was all in my imagination and that perhaps I needed psychological help,” began to reveal the German television personality, who was married to the former F1 driver between 2001 and 2015, for 14 years.
“When he announced [his homosexuality], it was like a knife in my heart. Today I feel that I was used during the marriage. I feel like I wasted the best years of my life. I ask myself many questions: was he honest with me? But there is something even more important that I can’t get out of my head: did he love me? I trusted him blindly. His word was like a kind of law to me,” she added.
