Ramadan amnesty for prisoners: Release process begins

Jeddah: King Salman has announced amnesty for those imprisoned in Saudi Arabia on the occasion of Ramadan. The General Directorate of Prisons has started the process of identifying and releasing those who are eligible for amnesty among those who have been convicted of various crimes.

In the coming days, among the jails in different parts of the country, those eligible for amnesty will be identified and released. It is customary for many people to be released from prison during Ramadan every year. This will include both natives and foreigners. Interior Minister Amir Abdulaziz bin Saud has directed the speedy implementation of the royal decree and the speedy completion of procedures for its beneficiaries, the prison chief said.

He also clarified that the amnesty is a humanitarian consideration from King Salman. The jail chief added that it will have a huge impact on its beneficiaries when they are reunited with their families after being released from prison.
