Ramadan Fasting Begins; Israel and Palestine resume peace talks

by time news

Cairo: Peace talks between Israel and Palestine are reportedly starting ahead of Ramadan. Middle East Eye also reported that the United States and Jordan are mediating the talks being held in Sharm-al-Sheikh, Egypt.

World nations have also expressed concern over the ongoing tension in the region for the past few weeks. Following this, there are reports that Jordan has taken the initiative for consensus efforts. Last month, following the talks in Jordan in February, an attack by Israeli settlers in Huwara killed one Palestinian and seriously injured 400 others. Following this, the two countries are joining hands for negotiations again.

The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in a statement that the talks to be held on Sunday will be attended by political and security leaders of both countries.

Palestinian spokesman Hussein al-Sheikh tweeted that measures to ensure the rights and freedom of the Palestinian people and to resist the Israeli occupation will be raised in the discussion.

In the attack carried out by Israeli citizens in Huwara, about 35 Palestinian houses were destroyed and about 100 cars were set on fire.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the region is currently witnessing the worst crisis since 2000. In 2023, 86 Palestinians, including 16 children, have been killed in Israeli attacks so far, citing official figures, according to a report released by Al Jazeera.
