Ramadan/Markets: 3,032 violations noted from 1st Sha’ban to 5th Ramadan (commission)

Rabat – Some 3,032 violations of price and quality regulations were noted from 1 Shaâbane to 5 Ramadan 1444, following operations carried out by local commissions for controlling prices and product quality at the level of prefectures and provinces.

A total of 552 of these violations were the subject of formal notices to the offenders and 2,480 were sanctioned by reports sent to the competent courts, indicates a press release from the Directorate of Competition, Prices and Compensation (DCPC), under the Ministry of Economy and Finance, relating to the 1st meeting of the Interministerial Commission responsible for monitoring supply, prices and price and quality control operations during the holy month of Ramadan, held on Tuesday.

The offences punished by reports relate to 1,023 offences under Law 31-08 establishing consumer protection measures, mainly relating to the failure to display prices and the failure to issue an invoice to the customer, 733 offences under Law 104-12 on freedom of prices and competition, mainly relating to the illegal increase in regulated prices, 664 offences under Law 77-15 banning plastic bags and 60 offences under texts relating to hygiene and health safety.

This inspection, which covered 60,812 points of sale, made it possible to seize and destroy 129 tonnes of products unfit for consumption or not conforming to current standards, the press release said.
