Kerala is a country known for its religious harmony. People of all faiths live here with mutual love, mutual trust and mutual cooperation. That is why this place is not a fertile ground for communalism. In such a Kerala, a speech that would sow the seeds of secularism should never have come from someone with a political heritage like PC George. Such speeches only serve to encourage the Sangh Parivar communal forces. Ramesh Chennithala added that it was unfortunate that PC George had a weapon in his hand.
Meanwhile, PC George, who was arrested by the police on a charge of making hate speech, was released on bail. The court granted bail on the condition that he not make hate speech or influence witnesses. The court also asked the investigating officer to appear if requested. The bail was granted by the Vanchiyoor Judicial Magistrate’s Court. The prosecution argued that PC George should not be granted bail, but was granted conditional bail. PC George was arrested this morning in connection with the case. Thiruvananthapuram Fort police arrested PC George at his home in Erattupetta this morning and took him to the Thiruvananthapuram AR camp for arrest.
Former MLA PC George was arrested by the police on Friday for making hate speech at the Ananthapuri Hindu Maha Sammelan. George’s speech was controversial, even to the point of deporting some of the most extremist leaders in northern India. The Youth League and the DYFI lodged a complaint with the police against the references in George’s speech. The unexpected police move in the early hours of the morning was a continuation of a case registered by the Fort Police last night. The police had been instructed by the government to move for a speedy arrest without giving him a chance for anticipatory bail. Police allowed George to come in his own vehicle. There was also a large police force. At ten o’clock George was taken to the AR camp. The arrest was recorded after preliminary questioning. He was arrested under sections 153A and 295A. Section 153A is charged with attempting to disrupt social cohesion and deliberately create conflict by using hate speech. Section 295A also provides for insulting a religion or religious sentiment by word or deed.
