Rami Kiwan defeated Poland’s Damian Durhach by unanimous decision in the first round of the 71 kg category at the Paris Olympics. Thus follows a fight with Shannon Davey (Australia), who last year came to the “Strange” tournament and was eliminated in the first round.
Ramey got off to a shaky start and in the first round three judges favored his opponent. After that, however, the Bulgarian got into his game and took the other two parts without appeal. His opponent also tried foul play, receiving two official warnings.
“I knew him very well. We sparred and nothing surprised me. I really entered a bit hesitantly, but I seemed to feel not only the people in the hall, but also those in front of the screens. After the second round, everything fell into place,” said the boxer from Cherven shore.
“I don’t know much about my next opponent. He hasn’t been out of Australia much. Now I will watch him on video and prepare for the fight. I will be calmer and continue to fight for the gold,” added Rami.
Our coach Joel Arate was also pleased with Rami’s performance. “Only in the first round there was hesitation,” said the Cuban.
Rami’s opponent is ranked #1 in the category, but that doesn’t mean anything. In boxing they have a crazy system where the champions of the five continents are drawn for places 1 to 5. Then the runners up from the strongest continents are ranked 6 to 8. Because of this some of the strongest boxers are not placed or are back.
