The year 2024 has just begun, and the German media have returned to one of the most talked about people of the past year – Rammstein frontman Till Lindemann. “Till Lindemann shocks with a brutal video: staged rape?”, “Rammstein singer provokes with a new video” – headlines with such content have appeared over the past 12 hours in almost all publications. What caused such a media reaction?
The frontman of the German band Rammstein Till Lindemann published on Thursday, January 11, a short video (18 seconds) for the song “Entre Dos Tierras” from his solo album “Zunge” (“Language”) in the story of his Instagram channel. In this video, Till Lindeman fakes a rape. The song itself, performed by the German singer, was first performed at a concert in Mexico, a recording from which the musician published on December 25 last year.

What is this? Provocation? Settling scores with everyone over the sexual harassment and assault scandal that erupted in 2023? The questions asked by the media remain unanswered. A video excerpt from the clip is no longer available in the musician’s story. However, very soon Lindeman promised to present the full version of the video. Of course, the Rammstein frontman again managed to attract the attention of the public and the media.
In its December 28 publication, the influential German weekly Der Spiegel dedicated an article to Till Lindemann, “Immer noch oben” (“Still at the Top”), which talks about the continued success of Rammstein and its frontman. Der Spiegel writes that even during the media coverage of the sex scandal, six of the group’s albums were in the top 100, the musicians gave concerts in sold-out stadiums, and the frontman went on tour with a solo album.
Till Lindeman launched his solo European tour in November 2023 with the album “Language”. The song for which the rape scene was filmed is Lindeman’s cover of the Spanish band’s 1990 hit “Heroes del Silencio.” The lyrics of the song talk about how easy it is to become a puppet and fall into a trap, losing control over your own life. It is curious that on January 10, the musician published a poem on his Instagram, the lines of which were also perceived by many as “settling scores” with the musician’s critics. It contains lines like: “The hyenas are howling outside / But with all due respect, you failed. / I’m fine / Yes / Moving on.”
Let us recall that in 2023 a serious scandal erupted around Till Lindemann: serious accusations of sexual harassment were brought against the musician. The prosecutor’s offices of Lithuania and Germany (Berlin) began investigations against the singer, but all cases were closed.
A provocation or a PR move?
The video, which Lindeman published on his Instagram channel, could be not only a provocation in the spirit of Lindeman, but also a deliberate marketing ploy by the musician, journalists suggest. The album “Zunge” will go on sale in Germany on January 15th. But now all the media write only about him.
