Randy Meisner, Co-Founder and Iconic Vocalist of the Eagles, Passes Away at 77

by time news

Singer Randy Meisner, co-founder of the legendary rock band the Eagles, has passed away at the age of 77. Meisner was best known for his high-tenor notes in the Eagles’ 1976 hit “Take It to the Limit.”

According to a statement posted on the band’s website, Meisner died on Wednesday in Los Angeles from complications of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The statement described him as an integral part of the Eagles and praised his “astonishing” vocal range.

Meisner was one of the founding members of the Eagles, along with Glenn Frey, Don Henley, and Bernie Leadon. Together, they created numerous critically acclaimed albums, including “Desperado,” “On the Border,” “One of These Nights,” and the iconic 1976 album “Hotel California.” The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, which inducted the Eagles in 1998, highlighted Meisner’s contribution to the band’s success, noting that he co-wrote some of their most enduring hits, including their first million-seller “Take it to the Limit” and “Try and Love Again.”

Despite his immense talent, Meisner was known for his shyness and reluctance to be in the spotlight. He left the Eagles following a disagreement with Frey during a concert in the summer of 1977, as reported by the Associated Press.

After leaving the band, Meisner embarked on a solo career and achieved success with songs like “Hearts on Fire” and “Deep Inside My Heart.” However, his departure from the Eagles marked a significant chapter in his life.

Meisner’s fellow Eagles co-founder, guitarist, and composer Glenn Frey, also passed away in 2016 at the age of 67, leaving a void in the band’s lineup.

Born in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, on March 8, 1946, Meisner had a rich musical background. Before co-founding the Eagles, he performed with groups such as Rick Nelson’s Stone Canyon Band and country-rock group Poco. His talent and contributions to the music industry will be remembered for years to come.

According to the AP, Meisner was married twice and had three children. Tragically, his second wife, Lana Meisner, died in an accidental shooting in 2016.

The music world has lost a true talent with the passing of Randy Meisner. His unforgettable high harmonies and his role in the Eagles’ success will forever be cherished by fans around the world.
