Rani Mukherjee said that the success of ‘Pathan’ not only cleared the dark clouds that loomed over the industry during ‘Covid 19’ but also paved the way for many other films. Despite the wait, they were released in theaters only, but all these films proved unsuccessful at the box office. Now Aditya Chopra’s wife actress Rani Mukherjee has spoken openly about that. Speaking at the ongoing three-day ‘FICCI Frames 2024’ event in Mumbai, Rani said that that period was very disappointing for her company but then the success of ‘Pathan’ changed everything.

Rani said, ‘During Covid, the film industry was going through difficult times. Many films of our company were also announced before Covid. There was also pressure to release him. Many big films were being released on OTT. Even then my husband was very calm and relaxed. He believed that these films were made for theater and they should be released in theaters only so that people could enjoy the big screen. He had confidence in his films, even though he was getting a lot of money for releasing these films on OTT. If seen, it would have been a profitable deal for everyone but my husband (Aditya Chopra) took a big decision that I will not release my films on OTT. I believe in the power of cinema, but when those films came, all of them flopped because after Covid, the way people watched content had changed overnight.

According to Rani, ‘When I was in my twenties, I used to do films for different reasons. It was not like you were taking decisions after reading the script. That era was also different, at that time we were not told the story or dialogue, there was a center line. Nor was any special effort made to convince us. It was like if you don’t do it, someone else will do it. I have also lived in that era when my parents used to just tell me that today there is shooting in Film City and tomorrow in Filmistan, I did not even know any other way at that time. I guess wisdom comes with age.

When fan letters started coming
My perspective changed when I started receiving letters from my fans. He used to tell me which of my films he liked and which he did not, then I realized that acting is not just a nine to five job. You touch so many lives with this. Otherwise earlier I was working to earn bread and jam for my family. After that I started choosing my characters thoughtfully. Then did the film Saathiya. When I was initially acting, I used to be very happy when I was told to pack up. I just had to go home but then times changed and I started enjoying staying on the sets as much as possible. I tried to understand that process and with time I evolved as an actor. I have learned a lot.
