It is learned that President Ranil Wickremesinghe made harsh comments in the presence of political party leaders at the all-party conference held in Colombo today (26).
He said that since he has the executive power of the President, he will implement the matters covered by the 13th Amendment in the Constitution of the country.
13th Amendment Procedure
He angrily mentioned that if the parties opposing his move can bring the 22nd amendment and remove the 13th amendment from the political system.
He also noted that the existing provincial councils do not even have the same powers as the London City Council.
He also mentioned that the 13th Amendment cannot be kept in the Constitution and not implemented.
Tamil parties boycott
Most of the Tamil National parties and the hill parties boycotted today’s all-party meeting.
Selvam Adhikalanathan, President of RELO and Member of Parliament, said that there has not been any progress in fulfilling the promises made by the President in terms of land release, land expropriation and the release of political prisoners.
