Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who was the president of Sri Lanka, officially resigned from his position yesterday after popular protests. Accordingly, the Parliament of Sri Lanka will meet tomorrow. After this meeting, a new president will be elected in the next 7 days.
Ranil Wickremesinghe took office today as interim president to lead the country until a new president is elected. Wickramasinghe was administered the oath by Chief Justice Jayantha Jayasuriya.
