Malappuram: The auto driver who molested the passenger at the tollbooth was arrested. Babu alias Thorappa Jalish, an auto driver of Maruta Ayyappan Poti, was arrested. The complaint is that the young woman, who got into the auto, left the road and was taken to the forest at a place called Mamankara Irul Kunn.
The incident took place around 7.30 pm on Thursday. The woman called the auto to go home from the road after work. But instead of going home, the auto driver left the road and took her to the deserted forest of Mamankara Irul Kunn and tortured the woman.

The woman filed a complaint with the police on Friday. The accused was arrested by an investigation team headed by CI Manoj Pariyata. An investigation team was formed under the direction of the District Police Superintendent. The accused was produced in Nilambur court and remanded.

Kollam: The suspect was arrested in the case of rape and murder of a middle-aged woman in Erur. Mohanan (60) was arrested at the Darbhapana sanctuary in Vilakupara. The incident took place on February 26 in the evening. They were found dead inside the house.
In the subsequent investigation, the police found the death to be a homicide. In the postmortem report, it was found that the murder was strangulation during rape. The post-mortem report indicated that the bones around the neck were damaged and there were bruises on the chest, stomach and lips.

Punalur DySP B Vinod led the police investigation. The police had interrogated around 100 local residents. Some of them were taken into custody and questioned. About five people were subjected to DNA test. Mohanan, who is now under arrest, was also questioned three times.
But the continuous observation of the police and the conversation of Mohanan after drinking helped the police to understand that Mohanan had committed the murder. After being taken into custody and interrogated again last day, Mohanan confessed to the crime. The arrested accused was brought to the house where the murder took place and the evidence was collected.
