BENGALURU- The public has expressed displeasure with the Bengaluru Municipal Corporation after the country’s first ‘rapid road’ cracked within a month. Municipal Corporation Commissioner Tushar Girinath said that ‘action will be taken after receiving a report on this matter’.

On behalf of the Bengaluru Corporation, Chief Minister Basavaraj Tommy inaugurated the ‘Rapid Road’ with modern technology for the first time in the country on Indira Nagar Old Madras Road on 8th December 2022.

To avoid traffic congestion, a road of 500 meters length was laid from New Pinnamangala Square to Indira Nagar PTA Complex on a trial basis. Within a month of the construction of the road, cracks have appeared at many places.

When the test road has so many cracks, what will happen if a similar ‘rapid road’ is constructed in all the roads of the city?

Hiremath, an Ultratech technical expert, said, “The contractors have not implemented this technology properly.

“So, there is a crack. Such a crack may have appeared due to high stress while joining panels 20 to 21. In some places, cracks may have occurred because the foundation was not set properly,” he said.

In this regard, Corporation Commissioner Tushar Girinath said yesterday, “Indian Science Center experts are investigating the cracks in the ‘Rapid Road’ constructed on Old Madras Road.

“After receiving the report, further action will be taken. Only the upper side of the road is cracked; Not deep. Steps have been taken to close it,” he said.
