The Mato Grosso Civil Police discovered that the killing of rural producer Raquel Cattani, 26 years old, daughter of the vice-state Gilberto Cattani (PL) is the girl’s brother-in-law. Raquel’s brother-in-law, Rodrigo, was arrested in Nova Mutum. He had several convictions for theft and other crimes, as well as being a drug user in the past.
Rodrigo was suspected by the police because he and Romero had become closer after her marriage to the producer ended. During their marriage, the brothers were not that close.
“After hours of surveillance, he came to the residence and, after being interviewed, he was very nervous about the presence of police officers,” the corporation reported.

Threats
Raquel was even threatened by her ex-husband days before she died. She confided this to a friend on July 15th and he died on the night of the 18th. She was found dead on the morning of the 19th.
According to the witness, Romero approached Raquel, who said “if she didn’t stay with him, she wouldn’t stay with anyone else”.
After being threatened, the businesswoman said she was installing security cameras on the property where she lived, but was killed before she could clear the property. According to the police report, Romero still had keys to his ex-wife’s house, as the locks had not been changed after the separation.
The investigation
According to the police investigation, Romero took his brother to Raquel Cattani’s ranch, leaving him hiding nearby. During the day, he had lunch with his former father-in-law and then took the couple’s children to Tapurah, to create an alibi and keep them away from the planned crime.
The investigation revealed that on the afternoon of July 18, Romero invited people he was not very close to to drink and roast meat. That evening, he attended three nightclubs in Tapurah. According to the police, this sequence of events showed an attempt to establish an alibi for being in the city, avoiding being included as the main suspect.
Authorities revealed that Romero was aware of Raquel’s routine and, in a premeditated manner, had previously removed the children from the residence. According to the investigation, although the ex-husband of the victim was simulated as his alibi, Rodrigo waited until the moment to commit the crime as soon as she arrived at the farm.
Around 8 pm on Thursday, Raquel was attacked and killed with more than 30 stab wounds. Rodrigo then stole some things from the house, damaged the television externally and fled with the victim’s motorcycle towards Lucas do Rio Verde.
The perpetrator threw the motorcycle, mobile phone and knife into the nearby river. The Civil Police will ask the Fire Department to begin searching the site.
On Wednesday, a team led by police chief Edmundo Félix went to the settlement of Pontal do Marape to arrest the high command behind the homicide and take him to the Nova Mutum police station.

Raquel was a rural producer, specializing in the production of artisanal cheeses and was killed in one of the rooms of her house, located on a farm in the Settlement of Pontal do Marape, in the municipality of Nova Mutum (MT).
On Sunday (21), Gilberto Cattani, Bolsonaro’s representative, used social media to reveal the rumors surrounding his daughter’s death.
“With my broken heart, but I need to say some things here. Raquel’s husband was never arrested or confessed to any crime and I did not kill my daughter as reported. At least respect other people’s pain, bastards”, wrote the vice on the X network.
The crime took place in Nova Mutum, about 160km from the urban area and 2km from the father’s house.
The murder shocked local, state and national authorities. In addition to the governor of Mato Grosso, Mauro Mendes (União Brasil), the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro (PSD), also made the news.
