JAKARTA – DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) held another event Betawi Eid taking place May 20-21, 2023 on the South Side National Monument (Monas) , Gambir, Central Jakarta. Eid Betawi 2023 carries the theme ‘Compact Betawi, Successful Jakarta, Advanced Indonesia’.

The Head of the 2023 Betawi Eid Committee, Beky Mardani, said that this Betawi Eid event is free and from anywhere you can join in to watch the Betawi cultural performances.

Various Betawi entertainment offerings are available at this event, ranging from drum performances to lenong or comedy. Not only that, tonight there will be an on-screen display, which is becoming increasingly rare for the people of Jakarta.

The peak of the Betawi Eid 2023 event will take place on Sunday (21/5/2023) which will be attended by a number of Betawi community leaders, clerics, and DKI Jakarta Provincial Government officials. The Betawi Lebaran event starts at 07.00-18.00 WIB.

“Tomorrow there will be a cultural parade, there will be a delivery procession and also entertainment. Even tonight there will be a step-in screen as one of the characteristics of people in Jakarta who are already difficult to find,” Beky told reporters at Monas, Saturday (20/5/2023).

“Those who want to witness various arts and then stay in touch with various figures, including Betawi community leaders, clerics and the provincial government are welcome to attend Monas tomorrow from 7 am to 6 pm,” he continued.

Beky said there were three big meanings for the Betawi Lebaran event which had been in a vacuum due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“For the Betawi people, Eid is a form of gratitude after going through a month of fasting. Gratitude then celebrates gathering and hospitality this time not only with family but also the wider community. And even people outside Jakarta,” said Beky.

“So this is a grand gathering. The Betawi people and the Betawi people. Then with other people in Jakarta, and also the government. In this case the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is indeed supporting the Betawi Eid agenda,” he concluded.
