RAS: a third of Russians announced a decrease in income during a pandemic

by time news

The Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) conducted a survey and found that 31% of Russians complained about the decrease in income due to the coronavirus pandemic in 2021. Last year this share was 35%. At the same time, the number of respondents whose expenses for food and medicine increased by 1.5 times (from 38% to 55%).

The results of the survey were presented by Mikhail Gorshkov, Director of the Federal Research Sociological Center (FNISTS) of the Russian Academy of Sciences. According to him, one in five (20%) respondents complained that over the past year they had to spend most of their previous savings.

28% of survey participants said they were unable to get medical care for problems not related to COVID-19 (last year 23% complained about this). Due to the pandemic, 27% of Russians abandoned their vacation (in 2020 – 29%), 26% abandoned their “usual leisure” (a year earlier – 27%).

Workloads increased for 17% of respondents (compared to 13% in 2020). “At the same time, attention is drawn to the fact that over 10% did not face almost any consequences of the pandemic,” said Mr. Gorshkov at a meeting of the Presidium of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

The RAS survey was conducted in March 2021. It was attended by 2 thousand people.

According to a May survey by SuperJob, a fifth of Russians are ready to get vaccinated against coronavirus if it becomes impossible to travel abroad without it. At the same time, 18% are going to be vaccinated in any case, and 42% do not want to be vaccinated under any circumstances.
