Zira Continues Undefeated Run in European Cups
The successful run of “Zira” in European competitions continues, with the team remaining unbeaten in their third qualifying round match of the Conference League.
Rashad Sadigov’s squad secured their passage to the next stage with a late goal in their encounter with “Osiyek” in Croatia, finishing the round without a defeat.
This impressive streak follows their victory over “Sherif” in the Europa League and their loss against “Dunayska Streda” in the Conference League earlier this season.
The team’s journey began with a goalless draw against Tel Aviv “Maccabi” in the Conference League two years ago. Since then, “Zira” has remained unbeaten in their three away matches in the tournament.
Their current unbeaten run in away games is one match away from equaling the Azerbaijan record, which is held by “Qarabag”. If “Gartallar” advances to the playoffs and avoids defeat at the hands of the winner of the “Omonia” – “Fehervar” pair, “Zira” will achieve this remarkable feat.
The team’s impressive form extends beyond just their away performances. In the 2021/22 season, they remained undefeated in five consecutive trips.
This current streak echoes a similar four-game away series achieved by “Inter” in 2010-15, another former club of the current “Shamakhi” team.
The last time “Zira” tasted defeat in European competition was seven years ago, when they lost 1:3 to “Astra” in the European League match in Romania.
It’s worth noting that “Zira” has also scored goals in their last three away games.
